Weapons

samuraisword

Sword

This most basic weapon in the Hapkido arsenal is actually the foundation for all Hapkido techniques. Originally, the art of Hapkido was developed by applying motions from sword fighting to unarmed combat. Study of sword techniques begins with use of a strung bamboo kendo sword and then graduates to a hardwood boken sword before students ever come into contact with an actual blade weapon.

Staf

Staff

A large colorful weapon, the staff is best used as a defense against multiple attackers. Study of the 6-foot bo-staff as a weapon is physically grueling, and best served after gaining mastery with more basic weapons first.

cane

Cane

The most subtle weapon used by Hapkido practitioner, the Hapkido cane is a typical hardwood cane with a hook at the top. Cane techniques leverage many of the circular motions used by Hapkido itself and is well suited to study by the young and the elderly equally.

nunchuck

Nunchaku

For flash and effectiveness against armed attackers, the nunchaku cannot be beat. Nuchaku study requires the utmost concentration and dedication from the student, and is not recommended without expert supervision.
